Trump + Crypto. It's been one stormy relationship
In July 2019, Trump said: "I am not a fan of Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrencies, which are not money, and whose value is highly volatile and based on thin air."👻
In 2021, Trump called Bitcoin a scam and then said crypto is a "very dangerous thing."👹
In December 2022, Trump released his very own NFT collection saying, "America needs a superhero." - traded via cryptocurrencies 👀
Anyway, the NFTs sold out quickly, collecting over $5 Million in ETH. Despite experiencing a drop in value, they later unexpectedly resurrected and generated a total of $19.99 million in volume by the first day of March 2023.
Interestingly, Trump has indirect ties to the crypto world through his long-standing relationship with Mazars, a global accountancy firm that failed to audit Binance's Proof-of-Reserves.
Mazars has also worked with Signature Bank, which provides banking services to crypto companies and has lent money to Trump and his family. Signature Bank is gone. Shut down.
Mazars helped Trump pay the lowest taxes possible and inflate property values to secure favourable loan terms. However, the collaboration between Mazars and the Trumps was suspended in February 2022.
